Perspective – It’s Where It’s At

At the end of last month I read Michael E Gerber’s new book – The E-Myth Enterprise; How to Turn a Great Idea into a Thriving Business, which is hard on the heels of his book from last year – Awakening the Entrepreneur Within; How Ordinary People can Create Extraordinary Companies. I am a huge fan of Mr Gerber’s and was so thrilled with the book that I rang the number at the back as suggested – to cut a long story short I ended up speaking with the great man himself! WOW.

Mr Michael E Gerber is the stuff legends are made of – his presence, even over the telephone, his attitude and his perspective are three dimensional and pulsating. Last month I talked about Attitude being everything, which it is. This month I want to focus on Perspective – and after speaking with Mr Gerber I was thinking he was the quintessential example of a person living with both. Mr Gerber birthed Business Coaching as we know it now; he quantified the McDonald’s example and showed us all how it would align itself to any business – that was some 30 odd years ago and his turnkey system is as fresh today as it was then. I digress – Mr Michael E Gerber has a perspective on business which views “business” as constantly evolving; as serving not only its customers but also its employees; its suppliers and its management. His perspective views business as an alive entity – an organism breathing only as long as it maintains service to all involved with its existence.

This is a man who sees the Vista of Business; the Big Picture; the Global View. And that’s the point .... Perspective .... its taking the ‘bit’, the thing we are thinking of analysing/focusing on, and blowing it into the larger dimension of “where it’s at”. How true that is of so much of our lives that we lose ourselves in the doing, the being; the processing and we forget to place Perspective around “where it’s at”.
